Industry Leading Security Features Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception. Zero Access to Your Email Content Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages. Open-Source Cryptography Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors. Proton Mail in the press: “Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes “A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

5 out of 5 stars

Unexpectedly Great! This mail client is awesome, it’s free and it’s really free. The upgrade plan isn’t necessary nor required for full functionality of the app. Most products on the App Store that are free have a hidden catch or cripple the free version unless you pay a subscription. Yes Proton has paid subscription to upgrade the storage options but for most individual users what they give you is plenty and if you need more than they give you then you should maybe think about how you use email as a person because 1gb is plenty for mail, if you need more then you most likely are using your mail client for something other than mail or you are too lazy to keep your mail cleaned out. The proton vpn, which is also free and unlimited usage, however the paid plan for the vpn is needed in order to pick your own exit node country. All in all the suite is great and even on macos or windows you can download the “electron” mail app and use it as an open source client for desktop use. It’s just not the official app, however it is transparent in the coding and is basically the webui with some custom css implemented in order to give you a free ui to proton. The only down side to all of this is you can’t just use proton with your favorite mail app. However I’m personally very content with my setup! Highly recommended and very secure!
